Melvins have been around for so long that it’s kind of impossible to say if they’re having a career renaissance. However, the band’s latest album, A Walk with Love & Death has just been released, and they’re in the midst of a massive tour that started last month and extends all the way into October. And while they’re a reliable draw whenever they play, they sold out New York’s 1000-capacity Irving Plaza, which might be something they’ve never done before. In addition to Melvins, Brooklyn sludge-gaze duo, recently signed to Ipecac Recordings, are along for the whole trek, so this was something of a homecoming show for them, especially with their sometime drummer Chris Enriquez, who also plays in Primitive Weapons, on the skins. Metal Insider contributing photographer Melinda Oswandel was there, and captured the evening for us.
