The 2015 run of the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival was a rough one. It was plagued by spotty attendance, founder Kevin Lyman saying that metal had gotten “gray, bald and fat,” and Slayer’s Kerry King reacting to that in the most confrontational way he could have. And even though Lyman put the braked on the festival after that year, the troubles continue. According to AJC.com, 20-year-old Joshua James Dugas filed a lawsuit over a skateboard incident at the Mayhem Festival on July 29, 2015 at the Lakewood Amphitheater in Atlanta, Georgia. Dugas is suing Atlanta, Live Nation Entertainment, and the Truth Initiative for more than $40,000 in medical bills, and more to follow.
The suit reports the incident took place during Hellyeah’s performance when an unknown person ran up and hit him with a skateboard.
The file stated:
“Dugas became dazed and confused upon being hit in the head and went in and out of consciousness. His friends helped him to an on-site medical tent, where he collapsed and was taken to an emergency room via ambulance.
Dugas’ continuing and permanent injuries have caused him physical, emotional and economic injuries.”
According to the lawsuit, the Truth Initiative were there promoting anti-smoking by giving away skateboards and should have been responsible for keeping them away from causing harm.
The lawsuit declares Atlanta and Live Nation both had control over the site where Dugas was attacked and both failed to protect him from “the unruly, dangerous crowd.”
