On Thursday (3/16), Brooklyn’s Candiria played what they said may be their final show of the year in their home borough. The hardcore/jazz/hip hop band, who released last year’s While They Were Sleeping, their first album in seven years, on Metal Blade, hadn’t played the relatively small Knitting Factory since before the venue itself moved to Brooklyn in 2009. While we got there too late to see Eyes of the Sun, we were told they put on an energetic show. Spotlights began the set playing their brand of “sludge gaze” to a room that was about half full in the beginning of their set to mostly full by the time they ended. Moon Tooth have been building up a lot of hype lately around last year’s Chromaparagon, but they’re working on a new album that they played a handful of tunes from. Candiria need no introduction, and many of those in attendance looked like they’d been seeing Candiria in Brooklyn since the early ’90s. The energy was palpable, and the band, rumored to be playing the Warped Tour this Summer, will win over a whole new generation that’s likely never seen them before.  Metal Insider contributing photographer Melinda Oswandel was on hand to capture the evening’s final three bands.
