At the beginning of last year, Trent Reznor said that there would be some new Nine Inch Nail material by the end of the year, delivering on his promise with a little more than one week left in the year. If we hold Mastodon bassist Troy Sanders to the same standard, we’ll be getting more from him than the just-released Gone is Gone and a new Mastodon album. In fact, in what could be a timely release in the wake of all the Donald Trump rumors, Sanders’ short-lived side project with fellow Mastodon member, Turd Factory will supposedly be resurrected this year. When asked by Loudwire about his favorite “weird” band (which in and of itself is a weird question), Sanders threw his side project into the mix:

This might be cheating a little bit, but this is a project I was involved in that was the weirdest thing I’ve ever heard. Brent Hinds and myself, we had a brief band that I’m really trying to bring back and it’s the weirdest thing I was ever a part of and it was very, very enjoyable… Turd Factory. It was short-lived and a lot of fun … We’re gonna have a new release coming out, I’m gonna go ahead and say it. It’s gonna come out at the end of 2017.

There you have it. Of course, there’s no release date, or who’s in the rest of the band. Then again, with Gone is Gone, West End Motel, Killer Be Killed, Giraffe Tongue Orchestra and probably about four more projects we’re forgetting about, the roots on Mastodon’s family tree run deep and sprout in many directions.
