If you haven’t marked November 18th down on your calendar, maybe you never were a Metallica fan. That’s when the band will release their long-awaited 11th album, Hardwired… To Self Destruct. You’ve gotten a chance to hear the album opener, the surprisingly punchy “Hardwired.” And below, you can see an in-studio making of the track. If you’re thinking that the November release of an album might lead to some extensive touring in support of said album, their first in eight years, then you’d be correct. Speaking to Rolling Stone about their touring plans, Lars Ulrich says that they’ll be spending a lot of time in the States:
“We did 180 shows on the Death Magnetic tour in two-week periods over three years,” says drummer Lars Ulrich. “That’s what works for us. We’re going to start pretty much full-on touring in January and are looking to figure out what we’re doing in North America, but there will definitely be some pretty extensive touring in America.”
It’s been since 2009 that Metallica have done a proper arena tour. Since then, they’ve played festivals (Reading, Lollapalooza) and done their own festival, The Orion Fest, which unfortunately only happened for two years. Ulrich also says that they’ll be playing a lot of sons from the new album, stating that the songs are less cerebral than those on Death Magnetic.
