If you remember the early 2000’s, bands like Slipknot and Mushroomhead became popular for their stage outfits, specifically the masks they’ve been known for wearing the past few years. But on top of that, they were compared musically as both came out during the time nu metal was a thing and gained popularity. And while Mushroomhead was around before Slipknot, factions of the two bands argued about who was better, kind of like the JNCO version of Blur vs. Oasis. After so many years, is clear who succeeded the most and someone from the Mushroomhead camp admits it.
Former singer Waylon Reavis recently admitted that Slipknot is a better band, which really shouldn’t come as a surprise considering the obvious success Corey Taylor and company have gained over the past decade:
“Slipknot is better. Flat out. Corey Taylor, you’re a badass fuckin’ singer. Slipknot, you’re a great fucking performance… I’ll say it personally because I wasn’t in Mushroomhead when all that shit went down. Guys, Slipknot is better. Hands down.”
At the same time, Reavis took the chance to explain his current thoughts about Mushroomhead, now that he’s done with them and can speak freely about them after the drama taking place last year:
“You know why [Mushroomhead] didn’t make it in this industry? Because they fucked over people all over the industry. They shit talk. They don’t care about you. They want your money. They’re not good people.”
“Mushroomhead” is nix. I hope they die slowly. I hope their fan base just goes down, and down, and down. I will never sing a song with them ever again. I wish I had never met ’em.”
That being said, the band’s 2014 album, The Righteous & the Butterfly, gave them their biggest debut yet, suggesting there are still plenty of fans out there. Watch the video with his commentary below and let us know if this finally settled who was the best masked band.
