Last night’s (10) Hollywood Vampires show at the newly-opened Coney Island Amphitheater gave fans a bit of a scare after Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry collapsed onstage during the second song and was taken away by paramedics. Video shows Perry sitting on the drum riser before staggering behind an amplifier, where he fell, and was immediately attended to by firemen and EMTs. The 65-year-old was treated backstage and taken first to a Coney Island hospital before being transported to Columbia Presbyterian after suffering an apparent cardiac arrest.
Hollywood Vampires, a band that also includes Alice Cooper and Johnny Depp, continued playing on, with a crew member allegedly taping an amended setlist to amps with songs that didn’t include Perry. Cooper’s rhythm guitarist stepped up and played the majority of the songs. The band didn’t make any announcements about Perry until towards the end, when Cooper said “one of our brothers was sick before the show.” Many in the crowd didn’t notice that Perry wasn’t there. The latest word from the hospital is that he’s in stable condition and having tests done. The band is scheduled to perform on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert tonight, and it wasn’t immediately clear if that was still going to happen. The band’s next scheduled show is on Tuesday (12) in Kettering, OH. Here’s hoping Perry makes a full recovery.
