dissonaChicago progressive metal band Dissona have been playing their brand of proggy metal for over 10 years now. The band released their sophomore album, Paleopneumatic, last month, but as part of their crowdfunding campaign for the album, one of the perks was to have the band record a cover. The resulting song, a cover of Johnny Cash’s Ring of Fire,” is a bonus that’s not on the album, and we’re premiering it here on Metal Insider. The band’s backgrounds of extreme metal, jazz and classical coalesce on their cover of the classic tune. Here’s what the band had to say about the track:

“As part of the highest tier rewards, the backer was allowed to request any song for us to cover and we would arrange and record the track as our own interpretation. We thought it would be interesting to create a version of “Ring of Fire” that is as contrasting from the original as could be while still maintaining the iconic melodies that everyone has come to know.”
