Last year was a rough one for losses in the metal world. And while Lemmy’s death ushered things out on a particularly cruel note, let’s not forget the awful van crash in April of last year that claimed the lives of two members of Wormreich and a member of Kahotika. The Georgia crash was thought to be caused by the driver falling asleep and veering off the road, but it turns out that’s not the case. Yesterday, AthensOnline said that Sergio Jose Quesada, the only person in the van to escape injury, was charged with DUI and three counts of first degree homicide.

Quesada was booked into Jackson County Detention Center on Monday and was released on a $17,800 bond. Two others in the van, which was on its way from Spartanburg SC to Atlanta, were critically injured, and everyone else in the van was hospitalized. Don’t drink and drive, especially when you’re on the road. If just one of the band members could have been the designated driver last April, we wouldn’t be writing about this right now. We’ll keep you up to date on what happens with this.
