We already know that Stone Sour are going Straight Outta Burbank for their second of three planned cover EPs. In fact, we’ve already gotten to hear one of the songs from the EP, which will be out next week on vinyl for Record Store Day. Yesterday, the band unveiled another, their take of Bad Brains’ “Sailin’ On.” And much like their take on The Rolling Stones’ “Gimme Shelter,” it’s largely unnecessary. If you’re a fan of Stone Sour, you’ll probably enjoy it. That being said, if you’re a fan of Stone Sour, you’re probably not that big a fan of Bad Brains, if you’ve heard of them. Part of the charm of the D.C. band’s blend of punk, hardcore and reggae elements is how almost unhinged it sounds. Corey Taylor’s a great vocalist, and the rest of the band is perfectly competent. Which doesn’t make for a legitimate cover of the original, which verges on anarchy.

At any rate, Straight Outta Burbank will be out next Friday on Record Store Day on Roadrunner Records. Here’s the track listing:

Sailin’ On (Bad Brains)
Running Free (Iron Maiden)
Gimme Shelter, feat. Lzzy Hale (The Rolling Stones)
Too Fast For Love (Motley Crue)
Seasons in the Abyss (Slayer)
