We knew it was coming, and now we have the track listing. Stone Sour said earlier this year that they would be following up this year’s covers EP, Meanwhile In Burbank…, with not one EP, but two releases. And given that NWA’s biopic was as successful as it was earlier this year, it comes as no surprise that they’re calling this month’s Black Friday Record Store Day exclusive Straight Outta Burbank. As reported, Halestorm’s Lzzy Hale is featured on a cover of The Rolling Stone’s “Gimme Shelter,” and Rolling Stone premiered the track.
If we’re to judge the rest of the EP based on this cover, it’ll be a lot like the first EP: faithful covers of some of the band’s influences. Hale does a great job replicating Merry Clayton’s iconic “Rape, murder, it’s just a shot away” chorus, and the rest of the song is servicable, if not anything that’s going to replace the Stones’ version. It will, however, be interesting to hear the bands’ takes on Iron Maiden and Slayer songs, though. Here’s the track listing of the EP, which will be available on colored vinyl on Friday, November 27.
Sailin’ On (Bad Brains)
Running Free (Iron Maiden)
Gimme Shelter, feat. Lzzy Hale (The Rolling Stones)
Too Fast For Love (Motley Crue)
