There were a lot of people in the Los Angeles area that spent part of their Memorial Day weekend celebrating the life of another fallen hero, Ronnie James Dio. Over 2,000 people gathered at the Forest Lawn Cemetery on Sunday to pay respect to the singer, who died from stomach cancer at age 67 on 16. Unfortunately, some of those attendees were merely looking to make a quick buck. An eBay search for “Dio Memorial” finds a whole page of listings from bottom feeders that attended the service and are now attempting to profit off of his death.
Unfortunately, those scavengers are actually making some serious money from collectors. Memorabilia from the service, which includes a memorial program, a T-shirt and a button, are going for some serious loot, with a combo of the three going for $204. The memorabilia was initially sold at the service to benefit the Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund, and you can still purchase it at his web site. But those looking to make money off a dead man might as well have been outside with the Westboro Baptist Church. If you want to honor the legacy of Dio, go online and support the Stand Up and Shout fund and DON’T buy anything from anyone on eBay.
