For damn near 40 years, Lemmy Kilmister has been waging the battle between good and evil with Motorhead. Evil almost always wins, of course. And the trio’s hopped-up blues has some obvious influences, one of them being the Rolling Stones. While this isn’t the first time Motorhead have gotten around to covering the Stones, the band’s forthcoming album, Bad Magic, contains another cover, this time, “Sympathy for the Devil.”
It sounds pretty much exactly as you would expect it to. Musically, it’s pretty reigned in, at least for the first few minutes. When it finally kicks in at around the 1:45 mark, it’s still pretty loyal to the source material. It’s certainly not a necessary cover, but it’s a pretty faithful rendition that will please the Motorhead faithful, and we wouldn’t surprised if it becomes a live staple on the band’s tour behind the album .
Bad Magic will be released on Friday (28) on UDR. It can be preordered here.
