Last Saturday (15) Finnish melodic metal band Insomnium played Altar Bar at Pittsburgh, PA as part of their Shadows over North America tour. Local Pittsburgh band Dreadeth kicked off the night with a solid performance that earned salutations from the crowd and paved the way for Omnium Gatherum to open for Insomnium. Omnium lead singer Jukka Pelkonen worked the crowd up; repeatedly extolling the audience to head bang before giving way to Insomnium.
Finishing up the night, Insomnium took the stage to a good sized crowd at the Altar Bar. Niilo Sevanen, Insomnium’s usual front man was out, due to a family emergency in Finland. Artisan bass player Mike Bear filled in on growling duty while guitarist Nick Cordle also contributed. Insomnium played a solid amount of songs from their latest album, Shadows of the Dying Sun.
