If you think about it, Easter is a pretty metal holiday. A crucifixion, followed by the guy coming back to life a few days later? Pretty intense, especially if you’ve seen Mel Gibson’s torture porn film The Passion of the Christ. Writer/director Ansel Wallenfang disagrees, however. “Despite the fact that Easter is a celebration of the world’s most famous zombie – Jesus Christ – it is one of the least metal holidays,” he writes on his site. “In an attempt to salvage Easter for the inner metalhead and brutal craft enthusiast in all of us, I created Time To Dye: Extreme Easter Egging kits. I also wrote, directed and edited this spot.”
We’re not going to give too much of this hysterical clip away, except to tell you that the music for it was written by Wallenfang with his friend Oddgrim Doomhammer, also known as onetime Vital Remains guitarist Brian Weber. You can check his Bandcamp page out here. While the web site and ad make it seem like the “Time To Dye” kits are actually available to buy, that’s sadly not the case. He made a few of them and passed them around his office, but they’re not available to the public. “I did run a Kickstarter, but it was very poorly managed because I secretly hoped it would fail,” he tells us. “I had no idea how I was actually going to mass produce them.” Regardless, you’ll never be able to look at Easter the same way again.
