Philip Anselmo has been working on solo material for a while now, even back when we spoke to him in 2010. And though he’s been talking about it more often in numerous interviews, it had been relatively unclear as to when we’ll actually get to hear the Down/ex-Pantera frontman’s solo project. Well, that’s about to change.

It’s been confirmed that two of Anselmo’s solo songs will appear on a split featuring two previously unreleased tracks from Warbeast called “IT” and “Birth Of A Psyco.” The split will be tentatively released sometime in September via Anselmo’s label Housecore Records, while his full length solo debut titled Walk Through Exits Only is tentatively due out in early 2013. Anselmo’s solo band is made up of guitarist Maziar “Marzi” Montazeri (ex-Superjoint Ritual), drummer José Manuel Gonzales (Warbeast) and bassist Bennett Bartley.

But of course, Anselmo is still going to be kept busy for the foreseeable future with Down, who will be touring in support of their new EPs in the near future. Still, we’re looking forward to hearing Anselmo’s solo material, which he’s repeatedly called “extreme” and “aggressive as a motherfucker!”
