The most popular band in rock is bound to pick up some haters. In fact, that’s been happening since 1991, when the band released the biggest-selling album of all time. Over the course of their first four albums, Metallica popularized thrash metal, and each album got better. By the time they rolled out The Black Album, they were one of the most popular bands in metal, and they wrote an extremely mainstream album, that many haven’t forgiven them for since. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Drummer Lars Ulrich’s inconsistency as a live drummer, St. Anger, and of course their Lou Reed collaboration Lulu have continued to incense metal fans and tables everywhere.
