4) Alice In Chains “Again”/”We Die Young” (May 10, 1996)

This is notable not as one of the  best heavy performances, but as one of the final times Layne Staley sang with Alice In Chains. About a month after their MTV Unplugged was recorded and less than two months before Staley’s last live performance with the band, the studio is not kind to the band, and Staley’s performance is a bit spotty. Having the Late Show backing band perform alongside them doesn’t really do them any favors, either. Staley would go on to record two more songs with the band, but essentially became a recluse, dying from an overdose of heroin and cocaine six years later.
