Authorities have cleared South San Francisco Police Officer Jeffrey Lee of wrongdoing in the fatal shooting of former Possessed guitarist Brian Montana. San Mateo County District Attorney Stephen M. Wagstaffe announced on Thursday (14th) via initial press release that the officer’s actions were deemed “legally justifiable self-defense and defense of others.”

The incident occurred on April 28, 2025, when Montana, 60, allegedly pulled a gun on a neighbor during a dispute over tree clippings. Police said he then opened fire with multiple weapons, including a handgun, shotgun, and rifle, in a shootout that lasted nearly 30 minutes. Officers returned fire, fatally striking Montana at the scene. One neighbor sustained a non-life-threatening injury, while no officers were hurt.
