Why should major label bands be the only ones who get love? Unsigned & Streamed is a new column where we stream a song from an unsigned band we at Metal Insider really dig.

Every day a handful of unsigned bands contact us at Metal Insider with demos or links to their music. Though we don’t get to listen to each and every band that sends us an email, once in a while an unsigned band grabs our attention. So rather than sit on our asses and do nothing, we decided to do our part and actually help out these unsigned heroes with a new weekly column called Unsigned & Streamed. In case the title wasn’t clear enough, each week we’ll be streaming one song from an unsigned band.

To kick off this new piece, we’re proud to put the spotlight on Portland, Oregon’s The Odious. What started off as a group of childhood friends covering Metallica and Lamb Of God songs quickly transitioned into a life of its own. The Odious recorded, mixed and mastered their debut EP That Night A Forest Grew while still in high school. The music showcases a unique progressive metal sound that somewhat reminds us of bands like Between The Buried And Me and Opeth. So without further ado, get your first taste of The Odious with the song “Threads” with the stream down below.

If you like what you hear, you can listen to That Night A Forest Grew in its entirety over at The Odious’ Bandcamp page. You can also stay update on The Odious’ future shows and releases via their Facebook page.

If you’re in an unsigned band and would like to participate in Unsigned & Streamed, email a link to your band’s music and a brief bio to tips [at] metalinsider.com for consideration.
