Paws, Pets & Metal is Metal Insider’s ongoing column on bands with pets, discovering who watches them on the road, and more. Get to know more about these metal furbabies. We caught up with Pythonic bassist Morgan Warriner as he reveals his dog creates mosh pits while his cat purrfurs to hide from metal.
Tell us more about your pet(s) and their names?
I have 3 pets; A big fluffy great pyrenees named Yami, a shy cat named Frosk, and an axolotl named Nidhogg.
Have you ever taken your pet on tour?
I have not taken any of the animals on tour. Although I’d like to Yami on tour, there just isn’t enough space.
Who looks after your pet while on the road?
I get my parents to look after my pets while on the road.
What’s your pet’s favorite song or album?
I have no clue what the cat’s favorite song is, he usually hides whenever there’s a sound he doesn’t recognize. Yami loves all sorts of metal, sometimes he gets a little moshpit going when I’m writing riffs.
How did you introduce your pet to metal?
When I first got Yami, I listened to metal as I drove home with him. He’s loved it ever since.
What animal charity means most to you?
I find myself liking animal charities that take in injured animals, allow them to heal, and give them a place to live or release them back into the wild. I greatly enjoy when local shows do fundraisers to support charities. We had one called Throwdown for the Pound not too long ago to support the Saskatoon SPCA.
