Metallica’s fourth Helping Hands Concert & Auction took place on Friday, December 13 at the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles. These legends delivered an incredible evening of unforgettable acoustic and electric sets to benefit their All Within My Hands Foundation. Hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, the event featured guest performances by Sammy Hagar, Joe Satriani, Michael Anthony, Kenny Aronoff, and SistaStrings.
The evening saw Metallica surprise fans with a rare acoustic performance of “Low Man’s Lyric” for the first time since 1998, a cover of Diamond Head’s “Helpless,” a live debut of the Bachman-Turner Overdrive cover of “Away From Home,” and a live debut acoustic rendition of “If Darkness Had A Son” featuring SistaStrings. Their electric set included classics like “Orion,” their 2025 Grammy-nominated performance song, “Screaming Suicide,” and “Master of Puppets,” along with a surprise performance of “The Unforgiven II” for the first time since 2015, leaving fans speculating whether these tracks will reappear on their upcoming M72 2025 Tour.
The Helping Hands Concert raised about $3,000,000, with 100% of proceeds going directly to the AWMH Foundation, supporting workforce education, disaster relief, and hunger initiatives. Fans who missed the event can catch it on demand when it premieres on YouTube on Thursday (19) at 12 PM PST.
Adding to their landmark year, Metallica has been named one of Pollstar’s 2024 Top 10 Worldwide Top Touring Artists, coming in at No. 9 with $179.4 million grossed from 1.5 million tickets sold across 24 shows. The top spots were claimed by Taylor Swift, whose Eras Tour became the first to surpass $2 billion in gross earnings, and Coldplay, whose Music of the Spheres Tour sold a record-breaking 10.3 million tickets worldwide.
