Metal Blade Records recently celebrated its thirty-five year anniversary with a North American tour including bands such as Whitechapel, Cattle Decapitation, Allegaeon, and Necromancing the Stone. It wasn’t too long ago when we found out label and publishing company BMG was starting to get into the book business, and would soon release founder and CEO Brian Slagel’s memoir about the acclaimed label. Now, For The Sake of Heaviness: the History of Metal Blade Records will be released on August 29th via BMG, written by Slagel with author Mark Eglinton. Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich wrote the forward message.
Slagel commented:
“I have been asked many times about doing a book about the history of Metal Blade and it just seemed like a cool thing to do to document the 35th anniversary. You never really stop to think about a lot of this stuff, so doing the book is a great way of looking back at how many awesome things have happened to me and Metal Blade.”
Knowing Slagel’s role as an elder statesman of heavy metal, we wouldn’t expect this to be a sordid kiss and tell look at the label, but given how much of a history he’s played in the industry via the label, it’s obviously going to be a fascinating read that’ll earn a place on your bookshelf come August.
