At the tail end of 2015, Thy Art is Murder singer CJ McMahon announced that he’d be stepping down from the Australian deathcore band. The singer claimed that he was making less than minimum wage from the band, earning about $16-18,000/year. He also stated that he would be getting married, and as a 32 year-old, he wanted to spend more time with his family and friends. It brought about a solid amount of discussion about how it’s tough to make a living as a musician these days, and if he had his reasons for leaving, then so be it. However, it looks like McMahon’s absence from the band might have been only a temporary one.
This past Saturday (14) found McMahon reuniting with his band as they played the Unify festival in Tarwin Meadoss, South Gippsland, Victoria, Australia. There’s no official word from the band on whether or not CJ is back in the band full time, but from the below video where he talks about soul searching and being back to take over the world, it sure seems like it’s more than just a one-off. Theprp also reports that he’ll be with the band for their Impericon Fesetival appearances in April in Australia. No work one whether Molotov Solution’s Nick Arthur, who had replaced McMahon, will remain in the band.
