Germany is far from Seattle, but listening to “Red Leaves” from Berlin trio Earth Ship, you might be forgiven for not knowing that. The band’s fourth full-length album, Hollowed, out on June 24th, has a heavy sludge rock vibe, but for the album’s first video, which we’re premiering today, the band owe a pretty solid debt to ’90s grunge standard-bearers Alice In Chains. But just when you think it’s an AIC homage, the grungy harmonies are supplanted by some heavy growling a minute or two in. It’s a disparate mix of heaviness and melody. “Red Leaves” is accompanied by a creepy video that features a wraith-like creature in ropes (not chains!) and what looks like stop-motion animation.
