Robb Flynn has posted another mammoth update on Machine Head’s Facebook page, this time laying out some numbers and stats revolving around their latest album, Bloodstone & Diamonds. According to Flynn the album, “is at 53,000 (in sales) in the US, and still selling anywhere from 100-150 pieces a week.”
Flynn goes onto say that the band is no longer indebted financially to Nuclear Blast, either.
“From a business stand point we’re currently in the best place we have ever been in terms of the “music business.” I mean this creatively, financially, and in terms of just overall fairness to an artist we’ve never been better. Nuclear Blast Entertainment let us do our thing. Sure they offer advice and often it is (welcomed) sound advice and really? That is what we WANT from a label, but ultimately, they let us make choices. With the worldwide sales from’ Bloodstone & Diamonds’ we have recouped the substantial advance we took from NBE (no small feat in this day and age), which makes it the 4th record in a row for us where we recouped our advance and were basically “debt free” to our given record label.”
Remember, folks: labels don’t hand out money, they “loan” money to bands in advances, marketing costs, recording, and loads of other things. Album sales help pay off that loan until that money is recouped. Without sales the band remains in debt, and no one likes that, right?
Machine Head will be powering on the rest of this month and next on their “Evening with Machine Head” tour – no opener and being pummeled with two hours of Machinehead hits (we witnessed a show earlier this year in NYC).
