Katy Perry is one of the biggest pop stars around right now, but it wasn’t always that way. In fact, back in 2001, she released her first album under her real name, Katy Hudson. A contemporary Christian album, it flopped, and the label it was on has since gone bankrupt. In between then and when she transformed into Katy Perry in 2008, she found some time to do a little background singing with fellow Christian artists P.O.D.
It seems like an eternity ago that rap metal was still a viable thing and Jay Leno’s version of The Tonight Show was the most popular late night show, but Payable On Death. Speaking of Leno, the band performed on the show, and brought Perry Hudson along. She’s in the music video for the song as well. Guess they knew a good thing when they heard it, as she’s prominently featured towards the end of the song. In fact, Leno’s cameraman didn’t even seem to remember there was anyone else in the band.
Writer Adrian Begrand brought this to Metal Sucks‘ attention via a retweet, and we’re thankful and a little ashamed to report on it.
