If there’s one person that’s successfully made a career out of portraying the seamy underbelly of New York City in the ’70s and ’80s, it’s Martin Scorsese. Now he’s teamed up with Mick Jagger and Boardwalk Empire‘s Terence Winter to create Vinyl, a 10-part series coming to HBO in 2016. Vinyl is about the music business in the ’70s, as seen through the eyes of a record label president (Bobby Cannavale). Sex, drugs, and the birth of punk, disco and hip hop will be portrayed in the series, and judging from the one-minute trailer that debuted today, it looks like it’s going to be thrilling. We’re assuming CBGB’s will play a significant part in at least part of the show, and it’ll be great to see how realistically the series portrays punk, and fun to see if it covers hardcore in any significant way.
