Living in the New York City area, Billy Joel concerts are no big deal to us. The Long Island resident plays Madison Square Garden once a month, getting flown there and back by helicopter. However, the pianist played Los Angeles last night, and was joined by Guns N’ Roses (and AC/DC) frontman Axl Rose last night for a pair of songs. Fittingly, one of them as a cover of AC/DC’s “Highway to Hell,” which Joel has performed before. The other, “Big Shot” is a 1980’s tale of excess, which thematically is nothing new for Rose. It’s interesting hearing Rose perform Joel’s vocals, which are a lot lower than his normal singing voice. Performing at Dodger Stadium, Rose came out for the AC/DC cover during the set, with “Big Shot” being performed as an encore. Joel was also joined by Pink for his “New York State of Mind.”
