Metalheads rejoiced when their fellow metalhead Joko Widodo was elected as Indonesia’s next President back in 2014. Widodo has been previously spotted wearing Napalm Death shirts and he doesn’t keep his musical taste a secret. According to The Jakarta Post, Denmark Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen surprised Widodo with an unusual gift. Typically, one would expect a fancy bottle of bourbon or a shiny present such as cufflinks and pins. However, Rasmussen handed him a box-set of Metallica’s Master of Puppets reissue instead during his visit to the bilateral meeting at the Bogor Palace. The box-set was released earlier this month on November 10th and this set included a signature from drummer Lars Ulrich, who was born in Denmark and moved to Los Angeles at 16. Joko was stunned by his somewhat unorthodox gift as he gave Rasmussen a rencong in return (a traditional dagger from the Indonesian province of Aceh).
Widodo commented on his gift:
“Prime Minister Rasmussen understands my favorite [music].”
