The metal community has lost one of its own way too young, as SiriusXM Liquid Metal host and musician Mario Comesanas passed away yesterday (13) from an alleged sudden brain hemorrhage in Jersey City, NJ at the age of 30. Mario began his career in the music industry as a DJ at legendary college metal station WSOU/South Orange, NJ. He was one of the hosts of the “Hardcore Reality” specialty show at the station before making the jump to SiriusXM, where he could be heard every day on Liquid Metal. A source tells Metal Insider that he’d been complaining of headaches before finally checking himself into a hospital late last week.

Mario was more than a show host, though. He was also a musician, singing for Jersey hardcore bands December Aeternalis, and most recently, Low Road. In addition to SiriusXM, he had also had a stint working for Revolver magazine. When the Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival began in 2008, the magazine sent Mario on the road with the festival to host artist meet and greets and do marketing for the magazine, which is where he met his fiance. Most recently, he’d also been doing some work with independent label distributer RED Distribution.

Even without meeting Mario, you could tell just from listening to him that he was a friendly, passionate and positive guy that bled metal. And to many at WSOU, SiriusXM, Revolver, and countless people in the New York and New Jersey metal community in general, he was a friend. His positivity and enthusiasm was infectious, and we’re having trouble believing he’s gone so suddenly. Our hearts go out to his family and friends. SiriusXM’s statement, taken from Mario’s Facebook page and presumably from Liquid Metal’s Jose Mangin, is below.
