In his defense, Slayer’s Dave Lombardo didn’t even know about the enormous European song contest known as Eurovision (the same contest Lordi won back in 2006) until his interview with German magazine Intro. However, video of the drummer giving his opinions on a few pop stars the magazine had him listen to has been posted online. One of the artists he hears for the first time is German pop star Lena Meyer-Landrut, who won this year’s Eurovision contest for Germany with the song “Satellite”. What’s more surprising than the fact that he’s even willing to listen to these songs is that he actually raves about how great Landrut is.

Wait, WHAT?! I’m not trying to say that there is anything wrong with metal heads liking guilty pleasure pop. Hell, even I’m known to jam out to some Lady Gaga a bit (ed. note: you’re fired). But Dave Lombardo isn’t exactly the kindest music critic (ever heard his opinions on Lars Ulrich as a drummer?). With that said, it’s actually entertaining to watch Lombardo listening to the song for the first time and voicing his enjoyment. You can check out the video of this unexpected happening above.
