The Ocean (or The Ocean Collective, if you will) are always impressive. They might have outdone themselves with 2013’s Pelagial, a semi-concept album about an actual ocean, with each song getting heavier and denser, like the actual layers of the ocean. The band’s returning with a split EP with MONO, Transcendental, that’s coming out on their own Pelagic Records. “The Quiet Observer,” which Metal Sucks premiered today, is a nearly 13-minute epic that’ll appeal to fans of their proggy, melodic sound, there’s also cello and piano on it as well. If you like Isis, Tool or Pelican and haven’t heard The Ocean yet for some reason, strap in, it’s going to be a hell of a ride.

The Ocean begin a European tour with Solstafir later this week. You can pre-order the split on vinyl or CD.
