Cro-Mags Update: Harley Claims Self Defense As Fund Started For Stabbed Bassist

Posted by on July 11, 2012

It’s been five days since the CBGB Festival show in which former Cro-Mags bassist Harley Flanagan stabbed current bassist Mike “The Gook” Couls and slashed and bit William Bererio.  Flanagan remains locked up, and fans of him have started a legal fund for him. According to local blog nynatives, Flanagan is going to explain that he stabbed and bit the two in self defense. While that’s an interesting story, it goes directly against what the media and numerous bystanders reported. In the meantime, Flanagan’s legal fund has raised $581, or $97 more than when we first reported on it two days ago.

Meanwhile, if you feel the need to donate toward another, possibly more worthy, Cro-Mags cause, you might feel a little stronger about throwing some cash towards Mike Couls. According to Horns Up Rocks, Couls, who was cut in the lung, under his left armpit and on his arm, didn’t have health insurance. Thankfully, he’s out of the hospital and back home with his wife and kid, but hospital bills are piling up. “Please if anyone can make a donation to the Mike Couls Medical Fund it would help out tremendously,” a statement by Couls’ wife says. “Mike is the Cro-Mags member who got stabbed three times in an attempt to murder him. He does not have health insurance and believe me he needs your help. Please donate to Paypal MikeandKrisCouls at gmail dot com. Thank you guys so much.”

So there you have it. If you want to help out either Cro-Mag bass player, now you can choose your own adventure. Actually, who we feel the worst for is neither Flanagan or Couls, but Harley’s two kids.
