Does the world really need a metalcore cover of Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space?” Apparently yes, as I Prevail is reaping some serious benefits from their take of the song. As you might have seen in this week’s “Metal by Numbers,” the Michigan band have the #39 album in the country with their EP, selling 6,000 copies. The crazy thing about it is that the cover isn’t even on their EP! It’s a standalone single.

The band’s cover of the Swift song was released in early December on YouTube, and has gotten 2.4 million views so far. And while it’s fueled sales of the EP it isn’t on, according to Billboard, it debuts as #9 on their Hot Rock Songs chart, due in n small part to 36,000 downloads of the song, which is a 552% increase from the previous week.  That gives them a top 100 single, with the song debuting at #90. Those that are concerned about the band’s lasting impact as a result of the cover needn’t worry too much, though. While it topped Billboard and Twitter’s real time chart last week, it isn’t even on the Top 140 chart as of us writing this (also, we get it – 140, like 140 characters? Cute)
