Metal Inside(r) Home Quarantine is Metal Insider’s new column during this time of isolation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We asked artists five questions on what’s been keeping them busy ranging from their favorite movies, food they’ve been eating, music they’ve been listening to and more. We caught up with The Word Alive’s Zack Hansen (guitar/vocals) as he’s been spending this time making his own metal sauce.

Hi! First off I want to say thanks to everyone reading this and who has listened to our new album Monomania

What have you been doing to pass time during Quarantine?

To pass time and not be completely bored I’ve been trying to find a nice balance of video games and music. I’ve been playing Call Of Duty a ton and working on making guitar tutorials.

Have you been listening to any music or have any playlists worth checking out?

I haven’t been listening to a ton of new music to be honest, usually In the mornings I’ll put on a playlist to get the day going. Usually a LoFi playlist or jam some Tycho!

A lot of people have been spending this time cooking including making their own bread, what food have you been prepping during this time?

I have been cooking a ton! I’ve been mostly eating at home and cooking for myself. I love grilling meats and making a hearty meal! I’ve been working on a nice sauce of my own. Debating on calling it dragon sauce or metal sauce. More details on that soon!

In terms of entertainment, what movies, TV shows, books, or games have been keeping you busy?

DID SOMEBODY SAY TIGER KING?! Cause when it comes to new TV shows and what has been on my screen I’ve watched Tiger King a couple times already. I also dove into Star Wars and rewatched all of the Marvel movies! I need to try to read more in general but it’s so hard with all this amazing content coming out!

What advice do you have for your fans in isolation during this time?

My advice to anyone who feels trapped during this quarantine is to make time everyday for something you can let your anger or feelings out on! For me playing guitar let’s me deal with anything that may aggravate me throughout the day. It’s important for people to stay inside but that doesn’t mean you need to sit on the couch all day! Whatever makes your insides feel good or whatever lets you exert energy is great to fit in your daily schedule! And of course listen to The Word Alive 😉

Zack answered these questions before the death of George Floyd and the worldwide protesting surrounding his passing on May 25th. The group has been involved with the protesting and shared a link on ways you can help:

As always, take care of each other and let’s try to leave the world a better place than we found it.
